Nordic ASEAN Forum 2023

Nordic-ASEAN Forum 2023 at Malmö Town Hall was a one day forum where international researchers, business leaders and politicians presented a broad full-day program. The day was divided into three sessions with several distinguished speakers. Guest of honor at the dinner that closed the conference was Japan’s Ambassador to Sweden Mr. Masaki Noke, Japan.

After Anja Sonesson, Vice president of the City Council, Malmö had welcomed all to Malmö, Professor Hidetoshi Nishimura, President of Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) opened the conference. Keynote speakers were: Former Minister Mrs. Mari Pangestu, Indonesia, World Bank Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships, March 2020-2023, Professor Akiko Yamanaka, Japan, Special Adviser to the President of ERIA and former Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs. It should also be mentioned that Deputy Mayor of Malmö Ms. Sofia Hedèn made a superb presentation about Smart Cities.

At the dinner in the evening, Ms. Anja Sonesson was the hostess. Guest of honor was Japan's Ambassador Masaki Noke who thanks for the dinner with an inspired speech. The City of Malmö was also represented, by Deputy Mayor Ms. Sofia Hedèn, Malmö City's business director Mr. Micael Nord and on site all day was also Hon. Consul General of Japan Mr. Leif Almö.

Coordinator for the event was Mr. Lars Vargö, visiting professor at Jôsai University in Tokyo, but also Head of ISDP (Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP). Former Swedish Ambassador to Japan and South Korea. Closing remarks were given by Mr. Mattias Goldmann, Founder of the 2030 Secretariat. Responsible for this forum were ERIA, ISDP and STRING
