The government has appointed an investigator who will examine how to reduce the number of failed asylum seekers who cannot be deported.

There are an estimated 2,000-3,000 people who do not have the right to stay in Sweden but cannot be expelled.

Reasons why include that their home country refuses to accept them back, that they are stateless or because of medical reasons.

Anna Lundberg, a lecturer in human rights at Malmö University, has been appointed to the position and will identify the correct course of action in these cases and, where appropriate, propose how to reduce their number.
