A study shows that people who require translators during legal proceedings are less likely to get fair treatment.

Malmö University and Linnaeus University followed 40 legal procedures involving people born outside Sweden and found that questions from the court were often mistranslated and individuals were incorrectly identified. Occaisionally long conversations between the interpreter and defendant were rendered back to the court with a summary "yes" or "no."

Researchers found shortcomings in almost every trial they looked at, reported Swedish Radio News.
