A man in Malmö has been denied social benefits after the Swedish social services found out he was not eligible for them on his Facebook profile, Swedish Radio News reports.

The man received economic support for rent, food, medicines and preschool fees as a single father. When the social services found out that he was in a relationship with his landlady, with whom he had gone on vacation, they reported him.

According to Eva Danielsson, benefits head at Malmö's social services, they do not usually check people's Facebook profiles, only in a few cases where there were strong suspicions of fraud.
