Skanska Group wins contract to revamp LaGuardia terminal

A consortium led by Swedish construction and development giant Skanska has won the $3.6 billion (SEK 30.5 billion) project to revamp New York's LaGuardia Airport, ending months of delays.

The Skanska USA consortium, called LaGuardia Gateway Partners, beat tough competition to win the bid to demolish the aging central LaGuardia terminal, to build and maintain a replacement.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is responsible for LaGuardia, told AFP that the upgrade was necessary for New York to compete effectively with Tokyo and other global centres.
