Around 1,000 to be laid off at Sony Mobile

Sony Mobile says it is cutting around 1,000 jobs in the city of Lund, southern Sweden.

Staff were informed about the lay-offs in a meeting in Malmö on Monday. Almost half of them will probably have to leave the company, Swedish Television News reports.

About a month ago Sony Mobile decided to cut 2,100 jobs across its global operations. There are 2,200 workers employed in Lund.

Sony Mobile was formed in 2012, when Ericsson sold its mobile making division, with 400 job cuts.
