Rust caused the huge hot water leak in central Lund Friday night, leading to one death and seven people getting injured in road accidents, officials say.

An initial investigation shows that rust had attacked and weakened the pipe carrying the scalding hot water from the central warm-water boiler in the city. It burst, meaning 10,000 cubic metres of hot water could escape, causing clouds of steam to reduce visibility in the area. The death and injuries were cause by a bus crashing in the chaos.
