Sweden recorded no shooting deaths in January, making last month the first in almost 8 years without deadly gun violence.

That's according to preliminary police statistics that the tabloids Expressen and Aftonbladet have reported on.

Criminologist Manne Gerell at Malmö University says arrests of leading gang figures in recent years are likely having an impact.
