Lyssna: Social supermarkets in high demand

There's a rising number of people on low incomes seeking membership to shop for cheaper food at so-called 'social supermarkets' in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

That's according to Swedish Radio News, which earlier this year reported a surge in interest in shopping at the supermarkets, which are run by charity organisations.

The Rescue Mission in Gothenburg and Stockholm City Mission in the capital say they now need double the amount of donated food compared to earlier to accommodate demand.
