Many children in deprived areas don't attend day-care

Over 5,000 children of pre-school age in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö stayed at home with their parents last year.

Several thousand toddlers don't attend pre-school in Sweden with parents choosing instead to keep them at home.

A larger percentage of them are in deprived areas of the big cities of Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg, according to Swedish Radio, which has met several parents who have chosen to keep their children at home until they are legally obliged to start school.
